DURHAM, N.H. - The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to New Hampshire, 16-7, this afternoon in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-3, while the Wildcats improve to 1-1.
Senior tri-captain Nikki Bolduc (Exeter, N.H.) scored two goals to lead the Crusaders, while senior Kaitlin Nangle (Skaneateles, N.Y.), sophomores Katie Gardner (Garden City, N.Y.), Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.), Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Meg O'Leary (Longmeadow, Mass.) each scored one goal. Fenton, Baird, senior Kelly Winslow (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshman Mary Milley (Fairfax, Va.) each had one assist.
New Hampshire was led by Ashley Crook's four goals, while Michaela Hardy and Shaunna Kaplan each had three goals and one assist.
UNH jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Baird and Bolduc made it a 4-2 game. Baird assisted on Bolduc's goal. After the Wildcats increased their lead to 5-2, Bolduc and O'Leary scored to cut the UNH lead to 5-4. Bolduc's second goal of the game was on a free position shot. With New Hampshire leading 6-4, Fenton netted the final goal of the first half with an assist by Winslow for a 6-5 score going into intermission.
New Hampshire then scored nine unanswered goals in the second half to take a 15-5 advantage. Gardner then scored her first collegiate goal, while Milley earned her first collegiate assist. After a UNH goal, Nangle scored with 50 seconds remaining with an assist by Fenton for the 16-7 final score.
Holy Cross freshman goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made 14 saves, while Ashley Milley stopped six shots for New Hampshire. UNH outshot the Crusaders by a 39-15 margin, while the Crusaders picked up 17 ground balls and New Hampshire had 15.
The Crusaders return to action on Monday, March 3, when they travel to Davis, Calif., to meet UC Davis at 6:00 p.m. (EST).
