Four Women’s Lacrosse Players Earn All-Patriot League Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's lacrosse senior captain Sara Hennessey (Winchester, Mass.) has earned first team All-Patriot League honors, while junior captain Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.), junior Sophia Agostinelli (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Kate Martino (Summit, N.J.) were selected to the second team as announced by the league office. This is the first time that Hennessey has been named to the first team as she was a second team selection in 2013. This is the third straight year that Ryan has received second team accolades, while Agostinelli and Martino earn All-League honors for the first time.

Hennessey leads the team this season with 26 goals, while she is third with 31 points and is fourth with five assists. She is also third on the team with 21 draw controls. Her 2.17 goals per game are seventh in the league and her 2.58 points per game are ninth. Hennessey has played in 63 career games with 120 goals and 14 assists for 134 points. She also has 10 career game-winning goals. Her 120 goals are sixth all-time in program history and her 134 points are 10th. Also her 124 career draw controls are fourth all-time and her 48 caused turnovers are sixth. She is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, while she is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.

Ryan is second on the team this season with 33 points, tied for second with 10 assists, third with 23 goals, first with 33 ground balls, second with 32 draw controls and second with 22 caused turnovers. She has 100 career goals and 26 assists for 126 points. Her 100 career goals are 10th all-time in program history and her 149 career draw controls are second. Also her 60 caused turnovers are fifth all-time. Ryan earned 2013 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll accolades. She is a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Agostinelli leads the team with 25 caused turnovers which are fourth all-time for a season in program history. Her 1.56 caused turnovers per game are 33rd nationally. Earlier this season she was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on March 17. She tied a Patriot League single-game record with six caused turnovers versus Brown on March 11. Agostinelli is third on the team this year with 26 ground balls. For her career she has played in 37 games with 42 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers.

Martino leads the team with 34 points, while she is second on the team with 24 goals and tied for second with 10 assists. She leads the team with 41 draw controls which are tied for seventh for a season in program history. Martino also has 19 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. This is Martino's first season at Holy Cross as she transferred from North Carolina. She played in 11 games as the Tar Heels won the 2013 NCAA national championship. She was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.  

The Crusaders (6-11 overall, 4-4 PL) are the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will host No. 5 seed Colgate (7-8 overall, 4-4 PL) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 22, at Holy Cross Field at 5:00 p.m. The Crusaders defeated the Raiders by a 10-9 score earlier this season on March 8 at Holy Cross Field.
