Holy Cross Falls To Navy In Patriot League Championship Game

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy's Aimee Gennaro scored five goals, to lead the Mids to a 14-4 victory over the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team in the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament presented by Rockin' Refuel at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Crusaders conclude the season with an overall record of 9-10, while Navy improves to 18-1 overall and earns the Patriot League's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Navy held a 4-2 lead with 14:22 remaining in the first half, before finishing the half by scoring six straight goals to take a 10-2 advantage into the locker room. The Mids then increased their lead to 10 goals (12-2) early in the second half, and eventually posted a 10-goal victory.

Senior Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) led the Crusaders with two goals, while freshman MacKenzie Bozel (Hunt Valley, Md.) added three assists. Senior Maddie Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) and junior Sara Hennessey (Winchester, Mass.) also scored goals for Holy Cross. Kathy Young netted four goals for Navy, with Loren Generi adding two goals.

Annie Foky earned the victory for the Mids, making six saves while allowing four goals in 59:12 of action. Junior Sarah Weber (Summit, N.J.) took the loss for the Crusaders, surrendering 13 goals and making three saves in 54:25.

Following the contest, Carrellas, Sutton and senior Sara Cox (Chatham, N.J.) were selected to the All-Patriot League Tournament team.
