Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Brown, 13-4

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior captain Maddie Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) scored two goals, but the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Brown, 13-4, at Stevenson Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 4-4 overall, while the Bears improve to 4-1 overall.

After the Bears netted the first six goals of the contest, sophomore Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) tallied the first goal of the game for the Crusaders when she scored on a free-position shot to make it a 6-1 score with 14:55 left in the first half. With the score now 7-1, Carrellas found the back of the net, but the Bears responded by scoring one more goal to take an 8-2 lead to the half.    

Brown then scored the first four goals of the second half to move out to a 12-2 advantage. The Crusaders then scored two straight with a goal by Carrellas and a goal by junior Sara Hennessey (Winchester, Mass.). Hennessey extended her goal scoring streak to 24 consecutive games. Brown then scored a late goal for the 13-4 final. The Bears had four players with three points each.

Kellie Roddy made six saves and allowed two goals for a .750 save percentage to earn the win for the Bears and improve to 4-1. Brown outshot Holy Cross, 24-18, while the Bears picked up 13 ground balls and the Crusaders posted eight. Brown secured 14 draw controls and Holy Cross tallied five, while the Crusaders went 1-9 on free-position shots and the Bears went 2-4.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, March 16, when they travel to Washington, D.C., to take on Patriot League opponent American at 12:00 p.m.
