WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior captain Maddie Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) has been named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Midfield Player of the Week as the Crusaders fell to George Washington (11-9) and defeated Lafayette (20-10) in their Patriot League season-opener. Carrellas led the team with eight points on the week as she posted seven goals and one assist. This is the first time she has earned this honor, while this is her second career Patriot League weekly award as she was named the Rookie of the Week on April 26, 2010.
Carrellas scored three goals at George Washington on March 7, while she posted four goals and one assist for a career best five points at Lafayette on March 9. She posted her first two hat-tricks of the season as she now has 10 for her career. Carrellas has nine goals and three assists for 12 points this season, while she leads the team with eight caused turnovers. She has 44 career caused turnovers which are fifth all-time in program history, while she also has 63 goals and 13 assists for 76 career points.
The Crusaders (4-3, 1-0 PL) return to action on Tuesday, March 12, when they travel to Providence, R.I., to take on Brown (3-1, 1-1 Ivy League) at 4:00 p.m.
