Women’s Lacrosse Picked Second In Patriot League Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team has been picked to finish second in the 2013 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. Also senior Taylor Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) and sophomore Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) received Preseason All-Patriot League honors.

Three-time defending Patriot League Tournament champion Navy was picked to finish first as it earned 12 first-place votes and 72 total points. The Crusaders were second with 55 total points and two first-place votes, while Colgate was third with 44 points. Lehigh was picked to finish fourth (39 total points), followed by American (38 total points), Lafayette (34 total points) and Bucknell (12 total points). Navy's Jasmine DePompeo was named the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Colgate's Jennie Berglin earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Zebrowski earned 2012 second team All-Patriot League honors as she ranked second on the team with a career-best 47 points. She was also second on the team with 11 assists and third with a career-best 36 goals. Zebrowski scored at least one goal in all 16 games she played in, extending her point scoring streak to 23 straight contests and her goal scoring streak to 20 consecutive games. She enters the season with 81 goals and 30 assists for 111 career points.

Ryan, who also received 2012 second team All-Patriot League accolades, was the first Crusader freshman to earn All-League honors since the 2007 season. She led the team with 50 points, while she was second with 41 goals and third with nine assists. Ryan posted the most goals and points by a Crusader freshman since the 2004 season. She also led the team with 65 draw controls which were second all-time for a single-season at the school.

The Crusaders will start the season on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at home with a contest versus Bryant at 4:00 p.m. Last season, the Crusaders went 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the Patriot League. Holy Cross made it to its fifth Patriot League championship game in program history as it fell to No. 1 seed Navy. The No. 3 seeded Crusaders defeated No. 2 seed Colgate by a 13-12 score in the semifinals. The team returns 17 players and eight starters.
