WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr., and head women's lacrosse coach Stephanie Ridolfi have announced the Crusaders' 2013 schedule. Holy Cross is scheduled to play 17 regular season games, including 10 at Holy Cross Field. The Crusaders will take on two teams that made it to the 2012 NCAA Tournament (Massachusetts and Navy).
The Crusaders will start the season with three straight home games with contests versus Bryant (Feb. 13), Boston College (Feb. 16) and Yale (Feb. 23). Last season the Crusaders were outstanding at home with a 6-1 record. Holy Cross will then hit the road for six consecutive games with matchups versus Fairfield (Feb. 27), Sacred Heart (March 2), George Washington (March 7), the Patriot League opener with Lafayette (March 9), Brown (March 12) and American (March 16).
The Crusaders then conclude the regular season with seven of their last eight games at Holy Cross Field. Holy Cross plays five straight home contests with games versus four-time defending Atlantic 10 Tournament champion UMass (March 20), Denver (March 23), Colgate (March 30), three-time defending Patriot League Tournament champion Navy (April 6) and Harvard (April 10). After an away contest at Bucknell (April 13), the Crusaders wrap up the regular season at home versus Central Connecticut (April 17) and Lehigh (April 19).
The Patriot League Tournament will take place on April 26 and April 28, on the campus of the regular season champion. The top four teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the tournament.
Last year, the Crusaders went 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the Patriot League. Holy Cross made it to its fifth Patriot League championship game in program history as it fell to No. 1 seed Navy. The No. 3 seeded Crusaders defeated No. 2 seed Colgate by a 13-12 score in the semifinals. The Crusaders return 17 letterwinners and eight starters, while nine freshmen have joined the team.
