WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore Sara Hennessey (Winchester, Mass.) has been named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Midfield Player of the Week for her performance in victories versus Brown and Sacred Heart. Hennessey led the team with eight goals on the week, while she also ranked first with nine draw controls and four caused turnovers. This is Hennessey's first career Patriot League weekly award.
Hennessey netted two goals including her team-best second game-winner of the season and the fourth of her career in the 11-10 victory versus Brown on March 13. She also led the Crusaders with four ground balls. Hennessey then scored a career-best six goals in the 15-12 win versus Sacred Heart on March 18. Her six goals were the most by a Crusader in a game since Kristine Corkum scored six in the 18-11 victory versus Boston College on March 14, 2007. Hennessey also posted a team-best five draw controls and three caused turnovers versus the Pioneers.
This season, Hennessey has a career-best 19 goals and 20 points. She is also tied for the team-lead with eight caused turnovers. For her career, Hennessey has 34 goals and two assists for 36 points in 25 games.
The Crusaders (4-4 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) return to action on Saturday, March 24, when they travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Patriot League opponent Colgate (1-7 overall, 1-1 Patriot League) at Tyler's Field at 1:00 p.m. The Crusaders have won three straight games for the first time since 2008 and are off to their best start to a season since going 6-2 in 2007.
