WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's lacrosse program has named seniors MaryKate Finnegan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) as 2010 team captains. Both players have had the experience of winning a Patriot League title as they were members of the 2007 team.
Finnegan has proven to be a strong leader as this is the second straight season that she will be a team captain. A defender, she has played 35 career games with 32 straight starts as she has recorded 46 ground balls, 14 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers. Last season, she tied for the team-lead with a career-best 17 caused turnovers which ranks 10th on the Holy Cross all-time single-season list. Finnegan also picked up a career-best 24 ground balls which tied for third on the team. In 2008, she had 22 ground balls, six draw controls and nine caused turnovers. Finnegan is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Fenton has had an outstanding career as a midfielder as she has played 40 games with 66 goals, 16 assists, 82 points, 46 ground balls, 62 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers. She ranks ninth all-time at Holy Cross for career draw controls. Fenton had a strong 2009 season after she missed most of the 2008 season with an injury. She tied for first on the team with 25 goals, was third with 32 points and was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week once. As a freshman she earned first team All-Patriot League honors as she tallied 38 goals and seven assists for 45 points. She is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
