WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore forward Sam Murphy (Canton, Mass.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from November 14-20. Murphy totaled three goals and four assists last week to lead the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 1-1 record, with the Crusaders falling to Sacred Heart on Tuesday (4-2), and downing the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday (12-0).
In the game against MIT, Murphy scored a hat trick and added three assists for a career-high six points. She netted the Crusaders third, seventh and 11th goals of the game, while assisting on the sixth, ninth and 12th goals. Murphy also added an assist on Holy Cross' first goal against Sacred Heart, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 first period lead.
Murphy now has three goals and six assists on the season, and is tied for the team-lead in scoring with nine points. Over the course of her Holy Cross career, she has totaled 24 points on six goals and 18 assists.
Holy Cross currently has an overall record of 3-3, with a 3-2 mark in ECAC East action. The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Connecticut College for a 7:00 p.m. game.
