WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior defenseman Sam Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from November 6-12. Last Friday, Rush led the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 6-0 victory over the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in its only game of the week.
Against the Engineers, Rush scored three goals for the first hat trick by a Crusader this season. Her first goal came at the 14:59-mark of the first period, giving Holy Cross a 1-0 lead that it would not relinquish. She added two more goals, at the 18:55-mark of the first period and the 2:22-mark of the second period, in addition to posting an assist on the Crusaders final goal of the game. Rush was also a key part of the Holy Cross defense, which held MIT scoreless for its first shutout of the season.
Through three games this season, Rush now ranks second on the team in scoring with five points on three goals and two assists. Over the course of her career as a Crusader, she has totaled 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points.
The Crusaders (2-1 overall, 2-1 ECAC East) return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18, when they play host to Castleton State in a 2:00 p.m. game.
