Women's Ice Hockey Selected Third In ECAC Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was selected third in the Eastern College Athletic Conference preseason poll, released today by the ECAC. The Crusaders finished the 2007-2008 season with a record of 16-8-3 (13-4-2 ECAC) and return fourteen from last season's squad, including ECAC First Team selection junior Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario).
ECAC league foe, Manhattanville, was voted the top team in the 2008-2009 preseason poll. The Valiants begin the 2008-2009 season after winning their eighth straight ECAC Women's East Tournament Championship. Manhattanville completed the season with a 24-7-0 record (17-2-0 ECAC), earning a spot in the Division III NCAA Ice Hockey Tournament.
The coaches voted Saint Anselm second, with eight first place votes. The Crusaders tied the Hawks, 0-0, in overtime to close out the 2007-2008 regular season. Saint Anselm finished the season with a record of 23-2-1 (17-1-1 ECAC).
Norwich was voted in the fourth spot and UMass Boston was selected a close fifth. New England, Salve Regina, Southern Maine, Saint Michael's, and Castleton round out the top 10. League newcomer, Nichols was selected 11th, Plymouth State 12th, and MIT 13th.
The Crusaders will open the season on the road at ECAC opponent Nichols on November 4 at 8:00 p.m.
