Women's Ice Hockey Picked Sixth in Preseason Poll

Oct. 24, 2006

Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was picked sixth in the ECAC Women's East Hockey preseason coaches' poll Tuesday afternoon. Saint Anslem was picked first with 116 total points. The Hawks received seven first place votes from conference coaches. Last year's Women's East Champion Manhattanville came in a close second in the poll, taking 113 total points and four first place votes.

The Crusaders will return 12 letter winners from last year's squad, including junior Katie Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) who scored nine goals and assisted on 12 others in the 2005-2006 season. Junior Captain Casey Harvell (Lexington, Mass) and junior Sam Murphy (Canton, Mass.) will also be returning to the team having scored eight goals apiece. The Crusaders lost no goalkeeping to graduation. Senior Dianna Muth (Lee, N.H.) and senior Casey McCullion (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Jennifer Van Dongen (Calgary, Alb. Canada) all saw time in net last season and will return to the ice this winter for Holy Cross.

Holy Cross received 70 votes in the preseason poll, just three points below cross-state rival UMass-Boston. The Crusaders went 10-9-0 in the conference in the 2005-2006 season and 11-14-2 overall.

The women's ice hockey team begins their season by hosting Manhattanville on Saturday, November 4 at 12 noon.
