Holy Cross women's ice hockey player, freshman Erica van DeGraaf (Guelph, Ont. Canada) was named ECAC East Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the conference. Van De Graaf was recognized for her efforts last week, where she added two goals and an assist to the Crusader offense.
Against Salve Regina on Saturday, February 3, van DeGraaf scored the first Holy Cross goal of the game late in the first period. Her goal gave the Crusaders the momentum heading into the second period, where they would score three unanswered goals. Van DeGraaf would be credited with an assist on one of those goals. Holy Cross went on to win the game by a score of 4-3.
Against #6 Manhattanville, van DeGraaf scored the first goal of the game, giving Holy Cross an early lead. The Crusaders went on to lose by a score of 6-3.
This is the freshman's second time being named Rookie of the Week in the ECAC East. She was first recognized on December 12, 2006. Van DeGraaf currently leads the team in assists with 18 and is tied for third in goals with eight.
The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team kicks off a five game home stand on Friday, February, 9 when the Crusaders will face ECAC East opponent Southern Maine. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
