Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team defeated Connecticut College , 2-1, Tuesday night at the Hart Center.
The Crusaders scored late in the first period when senior co-captain Meghan Mahoney (Utica, N.Y.) busted down the right wing before crossing the puck to freshman Shauna Pires (Falmouth, Mass.), who netted her third goal of season at 16:29 . Junior Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.) was also credited with the assist.
A minute later freshman Katherine Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) netted her first collegiate-goal, the eventual game-winner at 17:27 with help from freshman Marie Hickey (Mendonta Heights, Minn.) and sophomore Christine O'Hara (Burnsville, Minn.).
Sophomore Cassey McCullion (Philadelphia, Pa.) held Connecticut College scoreless for 54 minutes before relinquishing a goal to the Camels. Junior Suzie Conner (Bridport, Vt.) scored an unassisted goal, her first of the season, at 13:59 in the third.
In all, McCullion made 23 saves for the win, while junior netminder Gabby Petrill (Greensburg, Pa.) halted 22 shots on goal for the Camels.
The Crusaders host Southern Maine this weekend, with a 3 p.m. start time on Saturday, Dec. 4, followed by a 1 p.m. start time on Sunday, Dec. 5. The Camels travel to Williams on Friday, Dec. 3.
