Worcester, Mass. - Junior Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted her second career-hat trick, as senior captain Meghan Mahoney (Utica, N.Y.) netted the game-winner to lead the Crusaders over Southern Maine, 6-4, Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.
The Crusaders scored first when Cathryn O'Conner (Milton, Mass.) brought the puck from around the back of the net and tipped it to sophomore Christine O'Hara (Burnsville, Minn. ), who scored from the front of the crease at 5:21 into the first stanza. Freshman Lauren Oplinger (Summit, N.J.) was also credited with the assist.
The Huskies answered with two goals in the first period to take the lead, 2-1. Sophomore Caitlin Tassone (Woburn, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal at 14:26. Seconds later senior Rachel Wollstadt (Old Town, Maine) found the back of the net at 15:07 with help from freshman Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and sophomore Jessica Lortie (Cooper City, Fla.).
Senior co-captain Kathleen Remsberg (Arlington, Mass.) netted an unassisted goal early in the second period to even the score at two-all.
Southern Maine 's Audra Hill (Braintree, Mass.) put the Huskies in the lead, 3-2, at 8:41 in the second when she scored from the front of the door step with assists by from freshmen Courtney Feeney (Framingham, Mass.) and Meg Hansen (Westford, Mass.).
Bloxson scored two goals within one minute to help the Crusaders take the lead in the second. At 9:50 in the period, Bloxson netted the first of three goals to even the score at three-all with help from Mahoney and freshman Samantha Rush (Wakefield, Mass.). Holy Cross would take the lead as Bloxson would tap the puck from the front of the crease at 10:53. Freshman Shauna Pires (Falmouth, Mass.) was credited with the assist.
Early in the third period, the Huskies would take their last lead of the game when Hill scored from the right side of the crease at 2:38 . Hansen and sophomore Jennifer Cordone (Fulton, N.Y.) received the assists.
Mahoney netted the game-winning goal from the top of the left face off circle at 15:44 with help from freshman Katherine Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.).
With an empty net, Pires took control of the puck and sent it to Bloxson to net her third goal of the game with 27 seconds remaining in the contest.
Sophomore Casey McCullion (Philadelphia, Pa.) made 12 saves for the win, while sophomore Jen Arno (Westford, Mass.) halted 14 shots on goal.
The Crusaders and Huskies take to the ice again on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. , at the Hart Center.
