CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sophomore defenseman Colleen Krmpotich (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored her first and second goals of the season Thursday night as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated M.I.T, 6-1. The Crusaders improve to 8-0-1 (6-0-1 ECAC) and remain unbeaten while the Engineers fall to 1-4-0 (1-4-0 ECAC).
Holy Cross scored its first goal of the evening just past the 15 minute mark in the first period when Krmpotich scored on an assist from senior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.). Less than three minutes later, at the 18:09 mark, freshman Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) scored her seventh goal of the season with assists from sophomore Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan) and freshman Amy Pfund (Tenafly, N.J) to give the Crusaders the 2-0 lead.
Just over three minutes into the second period, at the 3:30 mark, Couzin scored her seventh goal of the season to give Holy Cross the 3-0 lead. Sophomore Christina D'Ambrogio (Toronto, Ontario) scored at the 5:41 mark on an assist from Henry and the Crusaders closed out the second period up, 4-0.
At the 1:51 mark in the third period, Krmpotich scored her second goal of the evening from just inside the blue line to give the Crusaders the five-goal lead. Junior Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario) added to the score with less than three minutes remaining, at the 17:32 mark, to put Holy Cross up, 6-0. M.I.T was able to avoid its second consecutive shutout in the final seconds when Kameron Klauber scored for the Engineers.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Atkinson (Westbank, British Columbia) made her third start in net for the Crusaders. Atkinson made 10 saves and improves to 3-0-0, while MIT goalkeeper Rachel Bowens-Rubin made 38 stops and falls to 1-4-0.
Holy Cross continues ECAC East action on the road in South Burlington, Vt. when it takes on St. Michael's on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3:00 p.m.
