Women's Ice Hockey Falls, 5-2, to #5 Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. - A goal and an assist by senior Ashley Trimble (Carleton Place, Ont.) led the No. 5 Manhattanville Valiants to a 5-2 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders.

Sophomore Amanda Nonis (Brampton, Ont.) chipped in with a goal and two assists, while sophomore Liane Ortis (Mississauga, Ont.) made 16 saves and did not allow a goal in 50 plus minutes of work.

For the Crusaders, sophomores Katherine Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) and Meghan Donovan (Reading, Mass.) tallied goals as Holy Cross drops to 3-5-0. Junior Casey McCullion (Philadelphia, Pa.) made 38 saves in net for the Crusaders.

Manhattanville scored three goals in the first three minutes of the first period. Freshman Michelle Witz (Pelham, N.Y.) got the Valiants on the board 59 seconds into the game with her eighth goal of the season to make it 1-0 Manhattanville. Nonis and junior Darcie Jarvis (Newmarket, Ont.) tallied the assists.

Less than two minutes later, senior Jess Temesy (Blenheim, Ont.) recorded her team-leading ninth goal of the season to put Manhattanville up 2-0 off a feed from sophomore Carina von Bredow (Beamsville, Ont.).

Valiants freshman Alex Blackwell (Brewster, N.Y.) tallied the eventual game-winner 19 seconds later off a feed from Nonis for the 3-0 lead.

Manhattanville would wrap up the first period with Trimble's second goal of the season to make it 4-0 Valiants. Temesy and senior Erin McAllister (Whitby, Ont.) earned the assists.

After a scoreless second period, Manhattanville's Nonis tallied her sixth goal of the season early in the third period off an assist by Trimble to make it 5-0 Valiants.

Holy Cross would answer later in the period as Falkowski scored her third goal of the season off of assists by sophomore Casey Harvel (Lexington, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Murphy (Canton, Mass.).

Donovan would score her first goal of the season coming on the power play thanks to a feed from senior Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.) to wrap up the scoring.

The Crusader women will be back in action tommorrow afternoon against Salve Regina in Newport, R.I. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
