Holy Cross Women's Hockey Drops Game To Connecticut College, 8-1

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team fell to Connecticut College, 8-1, tonight in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-2-1 overall (2-1-0 ECAC), while Connecticut College improves to 2-1-1 overall. Senior Sam Murphy (Canton, Mass.) scored the Holy Cross goal.

Connecticut College jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period with a goal by Caroline Jeffery at 10:33. Freshman Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) had nine saves on 10 attempts in goal.

In the second period, Connecticut College increased its lead to 4-0 with three straight goals made by Erin Davey at 3:28, Bridgid O'Gorman at 11:49 and Kristen Van Slyke at 14:34. Murphy answerd back putting the puck into the net at 15:29 with assists from both freshmen Louise Hillen (Minnetonka, Minn.) and senior Allie DeAngelis (Framingham, Mass.). Connecticut College answered back with another goal by Celia Mederos at 18:20 to make the score 5-1.

Connecticut College finished out the game by scoring three more goals in the third period by Farrell Thayer at 3:59, Caroline Jeffery at 12:16 and the final goal by Erin Davey at 14:26. Holy Cross had eight attempts at goal for the period.

Gallant made 25 saves on 33 attempts for the night. Connecticut College goalie Lauren Mellen made 23 saves, while Robin Edwards made three saves. Connecticut College out shot Holy Cross by a 33-27 margin, while the Crusaders went 0-7 on the power play and Connecticut College went 4-6.

The Crusaders return to action on Friday, November 30 when they take on MIT in Cambridge, Mass. at 7:00 p.m.
