Cambridge, Mass.- Sophomore Sam Murphy (Canton, Mass.) netted a hat trick and added three assists for a game-high six points to lead the Holy Cross women's hockey team to a 12-0 victory over MIT in ECAC East women's ice hockey action on Saturday. Sophomores Casey Harvell (Lexington, Mass.) and Katie Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) both tallied two goals and three assists for the Crusaders (3-3-0, 3-2-0 ECAC East).
Senior Sarah Wetherbee (Canton, Mass.) opened the scoring midway through the first period as she converted a power-play goal on feeds from senior Kate Remsberg (Arlington, Mass.) and senior Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.). Harvell recorded two assists in 39 seconds when she set up Falkowski at the 15:04 mark and then Murphy. Holy Cross closed the frame with a 4-0 lead on a goal from Bloxson.
The Crusaders scored five times in the second stanza including a short-handed goal by Harvel on passes from Remsberg and sophomore Meghan Donovan (Reading, Mass.). In the final frame, two of Holy Cross' goals came during power-plays. Freshman Amy McGhee (Newton, Pa.) registered the first on a pass by Falkowski and Harvell closed out the scoring with 3:50 remaining.
In net, Sally Simpson collected 39 saves for the Engineers (0-5-0, 0-3-0 ECAC East) while junior Dianna Muth (Lee, N.H.) stopped nine shots for Holy Cross.
The Crusaders return to action when they travel to New London, Conn., to take on Connecticut College on Tuesday, November 22, at 7:00 p.m.
