Manchester, N.H. - Senior Sam Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) scored one of the two goals made by the Crusaders in tonight's match up at Saint Anselm. Teammate sophomore Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario) would score the second goal for Holy Cross but wouldn't be enough as the Crusaders would lose their first game of the year 3-2. With tonights lost the Crusaders overall record is 1-1-1.
The St. Anselms Hawks would take an early lead in the first period with a goal by Arianna Rigano at 11:23. The Crusaders would not answer back.
In the second period the Hawks would further their lead with a goal scored by Cindy Lebel at 19:59. Again the Crusaders would not answer back.
In the third period the Crusaders would come alive with a goal scored by Rush and assisted by freshman Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) at 9:20 to improve the score 2-1. The Hawks would return with a goal by Arden Lyons at 12:24. Pushing hard the Crusaders would come up with a goal by Wilson assisted by junior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan) at 16:09.
Freshman Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) made 22 saves for the night. Carley Berry stopped 11 shots for the Hawks. Holy Cross had 13 shots and went 1-5 on the power play, while the Hawks had 25 shots and went 2-8.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, November 17th when they travel to Boston, Mass. to take on UMass Boston at 12:00 p.m.
