Holy Cross Women's Ice Hockey Defeats Salve Regina, 4-0

WORCESTER, Mass.- Sophomore forward Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) scored two goals and had two assists as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team shut out ECAC East opponent Salve Regina, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 3-0 overall (3-0 ECAC East), while the Seahawks fall to 4-2 (1-2 ECAC East).
Holy Cross controlled the first period but was unable to put the puck in the net. The Crusaders had 11 shots on goal, but were unable to score ending the first period in a 0-0 tie.
The Crusaders scored the first goal of the afternoon in the second period at the 16:23 mark when freshman defensemen Brooke Miller (Falmouth, Mass) scored her first career goal. Miller took a pass from Kratchmer and the put the puck into the right corner of the net. Holy Cross then went up 2-0 when Kratchmer received a pass from freshman Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) and scored on the breakaway, recording her fourth goal of the season.
Holy Cross continued to control the game and scored the third goal of the afternoon at the 3:59 mark in the third period when senior forward Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) received a pass from Kratchmer and scored her fifth goal of the season. Holy Cross shut the door on Salve Regina when Kratchmer scored on the empty net off a rebounded shot by Hochkins.
Freshman goalkeeper Carly Dominick-Sobol (Syracuse, N.Y.) made her first career start in net for the Crusaders and recorded her first career win and shut out. Dominick-Sobol had 12 saves, while Salve Regina goalkeeper Rebecca Simmons had 21. The Crusaders outshot the Seahawks 25-12 and went 0-3 on the power play.
Holy Cross continues ECAC East action at the Hart Center on Sunday, Nov. 16 when they take on UMass-Boston at 7:30 p.m.
