Worcester, Mass. - Junior Sam Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) led the Holy Cross women's ice hockey offense in a 6-0 rout over MIT Friday night in the Hart Center Rink. Rush got the scoring started 14:59 into the contest, off of a pass from junior Allie DeAngelis (Framingham, Mass.), putting her first of three goals past MIT goalkeeper Maria Prus. That goal would prove to be all the Crusaders would need to take the game from the visiting Engineers. Holy Cross improves to 2-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the ECAC East, while MIT dropped their third game in a row bringing them to a 0-3-0 record and 0-3-0 in the ECAC East.
Sophomore Marie Hickey (Mendota Heights, Minn.) brought the score to 2-0 by putting the puck past Prus for an unassisted goal 17:10 into the game. Rush would then complete her hat trick by scoring the next two Crusader goals. With 1:05 remaining in the first period, Rush got the puck from freshman Erica van DeGraff (Guelph, Ont. Canada) and netted the goal for the 3-0 lead. Sophomore Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) assisted in Rush's third goal of the game, 2:22 into the second stanza.
Freshman Kathryn O'Connor (Brookfield, Conn.) brought the score to 5-0 6:14 into the third with assists from junior Casey Harvell (Lexington, Mass.) and senior Shara Conroy (Londonderry, N.H.). Van DeGraff concluded the scoring with 9:58 left in the game off a pass from Rush.
Crusader netminder sophomore Jennifer Van Dongen (Calgary, Alb. Canada) stopped 16 shots on her way to the shutout. Prus halted 41 shots for the Engineers.
The Holy Cross women's hockey team is back in action Saturday, November 18. The Crusaders are set to take on the Spartans from Castleton State at 7:00pm in the Hart Center Rink.
