Holy Cross Women's Ice Hockey Defeats Norwich, 2-1

Worcester, Mass. - The Crusaders hosted the Norwich Cadets in tonight's conference game. Both junior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Wendy Nobrega (Barrington, R.I.) made a goal each to give the Crusaders the 2-1 victory over Norwich improving to 13-7-2 (11-4-1 ECAC) while the Cadets fall to 9-8-2 (6-7-2 ECAC).
Holy Cross controlled the first period taking a 2-0 lead. At 3:52 into the period Couzin put the fist goal of the game in with an assist by freshman Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan) and senior Sam Rush (Wakefield, Mass.). The second goal of the period was put in by Nobrega at 9:43 with the assist from sophomore Katelyn Doherty (Toronto, Ontario). Holy Cross took eight shots on goal, while Norwich took nine.
No goals were scored in the second period. Holy Cross took 13 shots on goal while Norwich took six.
In the third period Holy Cross had two penalties leaving them two down on the ice. With this advantage Norwich scored at 17:15 but it was not enough as the Crusaders took the game. Holy Cross had five shots on goal, while Norwich had ll.
In goal tonight was freshman Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) with 25 saves for the night. For the Cadets, Cindy Fortin had 24 saves for the night.
Holy Cross plays again Saturday, February 16 against St. Michael's at the Hart Center Rink. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m.
