AMHERST, Mass. - Amherst junior Renee Sisti (Coventry, Conn.) posted a hat trick on Wednesday night to lead the Jeffs' women's hockey team to a 5-4 victory over Holy Cross. Amherst improved to 6-9-5 with the win, while Holy Cross fell to 11-10.
The Crusaders jumped on the board first as first-year Parnell Ormiston (Duxbury, Mass.) netted a power-play goal, but Sisti responded with three straight scores to give the Jeffs a 3-1 advantage with 4:37 left in the second. Sisti notched her first goal unassisted at the 11:05-mark of the first frame, sophomore Tes Siarnacki (Gardner, Mass.) found her for a power-play tally just over a minute later, and sophomore Rachel Simon (West Orange, N.J.) and rookie Nat Khazzam (Montreal, Quebec) fed her to complete the trifecta 15:23 into the second.
First-year Elizabeth Ditmore (Excelsior, Minn.) stretched the Jeffs lead to 4-1 with 1:48 left in the second session. Holy Cross responded 11:42 into the final period as first-year Samantha Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) found the net. Siarnacki answered for Amherst, posting her eighth goal of the season after dodging a trio of Crusader defenders and flipping a slick shot past sophomore goalie Casey McCullion (Philadelphia, Pa.), but Holy Cross came back almost immediately as junior Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored just 14 seconds later. The Crusader's comeback continued in the final minute, when senior Molly Corkery (Salisbury, Conn.) tallied a power-play goal, but the Jeff defense held for their third win in their last four outings.
Amherst sophomore goalie Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, N.J.) nabbed 22 saves, while McCullion grabbed 22 as well.
