NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior forward Sarah Wetherbee (Canton, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Salve Regina. The Crusaders improve to 10-8 overall and 9-5 in the ECAC East with the victory.
Holy Cross trailed 1-0 after the first period, before tying the game in the second on a power play goal by freshman defender Meghan Donovan (Reading, Mass.).
The Crusaders then exploded for five unanswered goals in the third period to pull away for the victory. Freshman defender Samantha Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winner 6:30 into the period, then Wetherbee scored the next two goals to give Holy Cross a comfortable lead.
Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 1, when it plays host to Wesleyan in a 7:00 p.m. game.
