Newport, R.I. - Senior tri-captain Molly Corkery (Salisbury, Conn.) netted two goals, as freshman Samantha Murphy (Canton, Mass.) posted two helpers to lead Holy Cross over Salve Regina, 6-1, Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, Corkery scored her second goal of the season at 6:20 in the second stanza with help from senior tri-captain Meghan Mahoney (Utica, N.Y.) and junior Sarah Wetherbee (Canton, Mass.). Midway through the period Wetherbee netted the game-winner at 10:57. Juniors Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Kathleen Remsberg (Arlington, Mass.) assisted on the play.
Newcomer Marie Hickey (Mendota Heights, Minn.) scored her first collegiate-goal to put the Crusaders up by three with 2:30 left in the second. Freshman Samantha Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) was credited with the assist.
Early in the third period the Crusaders increased their margin by four when freshman Casey Harvel (Lexington, Mass.) posted her second goal of the season with help from classmate Shauna Pires (Falmouth, Mass.).
Salve Regina cut Holy Cross' lead by three when Danielle Darisse netted her second goal of the season nine minutes into the period.
With the extra-man advantage Corkery netted the final tally of the game with 45 seconds remaining in the game. Sophomore Shara Conroy (Londonderry, N.H.) and Murphy assisted on the play.
The Crusaders return to Newport, R.I. Sunday afternoon to take on Salve Regina at 2 p.m.
