Manchester, N.H. - Arden Lyons scored two goals as Saint Anselm (11-5-0, 10-1-0 ECAC) defeated Holy Cross (7-10-1, 7-6-0 ECAC) 6-1 in ECAC East women's hockey action at Sullivan Arena on Saturday night.
Lyons put the Hawks on the board late in the first period when she scored after dodging several defenders while carrying the puck the length of the ice.
Sophomore Samantha Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) evened the score less than five minutes later with a blast from the point. Sophomore Katie Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) drew the puck off the faceoff, and sophomore Casey Harvell (Lexington, Mass.) then passed out to Rush who one-timed it past Saint Anselm goaltender Andrea Berlin. Berlin finished the night with 15 saves.
Lindsay Snow put the Hawks ahead just 57 seconds into the second period on a power-play goal. Kathleen Twomey scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season at the 3:20 mark when she won the faceoff and immediately sent a shot past Holy Cross freshman goaltender Jennifer Van Dongen (Calgary, Alberta). Van Dongen made 36 saves on the night.
The Hawks tallied three goals in the final frame, the first coming off the stick of Lyons at the 9:38 mark. Shelly Swan and Danielle Campbell capped the scoring with goals just five minutes apart late in the third.
The Crusader women will return to action next weekend as they host their final two home regular season games of the year. Friday, February 4, Holy Cross will host Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m. at the Hart Center.
