HC Is Edged Out By Norwich, 4-3Northfield, Vt. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team fell to Norwich, 4-3, in tonight's conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 9-4-1 overall (7-2-0 ECAC), while Norwich improves to 6-5-1 overall (3-4-1 ECAC). Sophomore Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario), junior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Kathryn Kelley (Dedham, Mass.) all scored goals.
Norwich led the first period scoring three goals with out an answer from HC. Sophie Leclerc put in the first two goals for Norwich, the first at 3:34 and the second on power play at 7:35. Sarah Scardino put in the third goal at 11:38, on power play, to give Norwich a 3-0 lead. HC had three shots on goal while Norwich took nine.
HC came back in the second period with three goals to tie up the game. Wilson put in the first goal for HC at 5:28 with an assist from senior Sam Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) and freshman Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan). Couzin put in the second goal during a power play at 12:05 with an assist from Kratchmer. Kelley tied the game up with her power play goal at 18:19 with assists from freshman Colleen Krmpotich (Minneapolis, Minn.) and freshman Christina D'Ambrogio (Toronto, Ontario). HC had 14 shots on goal, while Norwich had six.
Norwich would score the game winning goal in the third period when Shannon McNulty put the puck in the net at 18:19. HC had eight shots on goal, while Norwich had 11.
Freshman Lindsey Atkinson (Westbank, British Columbia) was in goal tonight as she made 22 saves on 26 shots. Her record is now 3-1-0. Norwich goalie Cindy Fortin had 22 saves also on 25 attempts.
The Crusaders return to action on January 22nd at Trinity. Start time is set for 7:30 pm.
