Worcester, Mass. - After a six-game road trip, the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team returned to the Hart Center and earned a 4-0 win over Trinity on Tuesday night. Freshman Kathryn O'Connor (Brookfield, Conn.) gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead 8:29 into the contest. It proved to be all they would need for the win. Holy Cross improves to 9-3-1 overall with the victory and Trinity drops to 5-8-0 on the season.
The game would stay at 1-0 until late in the third period where the Crusaders scored three quick goals to put the game out of reach of the visiting Bantams. With 2:29 left, sophomore Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) would score the only powerplay goal of the contest. Fifty seconds later, freshman Kathryn Kelley (Dedham, Mass.) would put one past Trinity net minder Isabel Iwachiw, off of an assist from junior Casey Harvell (Lexington, Mass.). Junior Katie Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) scored the final goal of the game with :40 left on the clock, off of a pass from junior Sam Murphy (Canton, Mass.).
Senior goalie Casey McCullion (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned her sixth win of the season stopping 22 Bantam shots. Iwachiw halted 37 Crusader shots in her fifth loss of the season.
The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team takes to the road again, traveling to take on ECAC East opponent St. Michael's on Friday night. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 pm in South Burlington.
