Worcester, Mass. - Sophomore Casey Harvell (Lexington, Mass.) netted two goals and senior Sarah Wetherbee (Canton, Mass.) recorded three points as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team (5-8-2, 5-4-0 ECAC) tied Rhode Island (13-5-2) 4-4 at the Hart Center.
After falling down 2-0 in the first period, the Crusader women finally got on the board when senior Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.) backhanded a shot into the top right corner of the net just over two minutes into the second period. Wetherbee dished out one of her two assists on the play along with senior Kate Remsberg (Arlington, Mass.).
Holy Cross would tie the game under three minutes later on a goal by Wetherbee. Bloxson and Meghan Donovan (Reading, Mass.) picked up assists on the play.
Rhode Island took 3-2 lead into the third period after a goal by Robin Roselle.
The Crusader, behind Harvell's two third period goals, would take a 4-3 lead. Harvell netted her first goal just 52 seconds into the final frame off feeds from Remsberg and Wetherbee. Three minutes later, Harvell would add her second score at the 16:10 mark. Sophomore Katherine Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) assisted on the play.
Remsberg had two assists on the night for the Crusaders.
Freshman goaltender Jennifer Van Dongen (Calgary, Alberta) made 26 saves while earning the first tie of her career. She is now 3-3-1 on the season. Her counterpart Lynn Pecci turned aside 30 shots for the Rams.
The Holy Cross women will play again on Friday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hart Center when the host Saint Michael's. It will be the first of 10 ECAC East conference games to round out the regular season for the Crusaders.
