Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey teams (5-7-1, 5-4-0 ECAC) fell 5-2 at the Hart Center to Amherst College (4-6-0, 3-6-0 NESCAC) in a non-conference matchup. The Lord Jeffs outshot the Crusaders 49-13 and were led by junior Kirsten Forsberg's (Kenilworth, Ill.) two goals.
The Crusaders got on the board quickly to start the game when senior Kolt Bloxson (Fitchburg, Mass.) put a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Amherst goalie Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, N.J.). Bloxson's goal put her in a tie for second on the Crusaders' all-time points list with 106 in her career.
Amherst would answer just 19 seconds later on a goal by senior Renee Sisti (Conventry, Conn.). The Lord Jeffs would score again at the end of the first period to take a 2-1 lead. Holy Cross would tie the game for the second time when senior Kate Remsberg (Arlington, Mass.) scored off a faceoff won by fellow senior Sarah Wetherbee (Canton, Mass).
Amherst would go on to score the last three goals of the game to take control. Forsberg would score one in the second and one in the third period. In between Forsberg's goals was a score by teammate Alena Harrison (Westwood, Mass.)
Crusader freshman goalie Jennifer Van Dongen (Calgary, Alberta) would make 49 saves on the night despite the loss. Her couterpart Grabowski made 13 stops.
Holy Cross will be back on the ice again on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Fairfield, Conn. to play non-conference opponent Sacred Heart.
