WATERVILLE, Maine - Sophomore Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) scored her 13th goal of the season as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated Colby, 4-1. The Crusaders improve to 11-0-1 (7-0-1 ECAC) while the Mules fall to 5-2-1 (2-1-0 NESCAC).
After a slow start, the Crusaders got on the board first when senior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) scored an unassisted goal at the 17:26 mark in the first period to give Holy Cross the 1-0 lead.
Colby tied the game, 1-1, at the 12:20 mark in the second period when Meryl Poulin scored the goal off an assist from Liz Osgood. Holy Cross took the lead when Kratchmer scored the game winning power play goal at the 15:29 mark off an assist from junior Katelyn Doherty (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan).
Holy Cross took the 3-1 lead when Henry scored her third goal of the season at the 3:11 mark in the third period. Junior Wendy Nobrega (Barrington, R.I.) put the game out of reach for the Mules when she scored at the 11:53 mark off an assist from junior Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario) and junior Kathryn Kelley (Dedham, Mass.).
Sophomore goalkeeper Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) made her fourth start in net for the Crusaders, improving to 3-0-1. Gallant made 17 saves on 18 shots, while Colby goalkeeper Lacey Brown had 22 saves on 26 shots. Holy Cross went 1-2 on the man-advantage, while Colby went 0-3.
The Crusaders return home to the Hart Center to take on ECAC opponent Nichols on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3:00 p.m.
