Women's Ice Hockey Falls To Bowdoin Late In Third Period, 2-1
WORCESTER, Mass. – Bowdoin's Madeline Lane scored the game winning goal with 17:50 left in the third period on a power play to give the Polar Bears a 2-1 win over the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team at the Hart Center in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 5-3-0 overall on the year, while the Polar Bears improve to 2-2-0 on the season.
The game was scoreless entering the second period, until the 15:18 mark when Lane notched the first goal of the game. Assists were credited to Emily Tang and Schulyer Nardelli.
Freshman Rose Rather (Stamford, Conn.) got Holy Cross on the board just minutes into the third period. Izzy Bagi (Branford, Conn.) and Nicole Giannino (Bay Shores, N.Y.) picked up the assists. The Crusaders posted nine total shots in the final period but it was not enough as Bowdoin was able to earn the win.
Rather registered five shots on net, and she now has a total of seven points on the season. Bagi notched her first assist of the year as she continues to lead the team with 11 total points. Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) made 11 saves between the pipes and holds a 2-2 record.
Lane posted two goals during the game, her first two of the season. Goaltender Beth Findley earned her first victory of the year to improve to 1-2, making 28 saves.
The women's ice hockey team returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 1, when it travels to Wesleyan. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
