WORCESTER, Mass. – The women's ice hockey team dropped a close contest to St. Anselm, 2-1, today at the Hart Center in ECAC East conference play. The Crusaders slip to 5-2-0 on the season and 3-2-0 in the league. The Hawks boost their overall record to 7-1-0 and stay undefeated in the ECAC East at 5-0-0.
St. Anselm sophomore Alex Kazmer scored the first goal of the game with just 2:44 to play in the first period. Alexandra Starzy was credited with the assists. The Crusaders bounced back just minutes into the start of the second period as sophomore Mackenzie Boardman (Anchorage, Alaska) netted her first goal of the season just 1:20 in. The final goal of the game was scored in the third period by Hawks junior Sabrina Iannetti and the assists came from Alison Quinn and Courtney Winters.
Goaltender Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) garnered 13 saves between the pipes but fell short as she suffered the loss giving up two goals in 59:42 of play. Stevenson's record now stands at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The net minder for St. Anselm, Lindsey Brown, totaled 15 saves to earn the win in 60 minutes of action. Brown now boasts a record of 5-1 and is undefeated in conference action at 5-0.
The teams totaled 31 shots on the ice. The Crusaders had 16 compared to the Hawks who had 15. Each of the goals scored today were on power plays. Holy Cross had the edge in face-off's with 28 while St. Anselm earned 23.
The women's ice hockey team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 30th, in non-conference play at the Hart Center versus Bowdoin. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
