WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Izzy Bagi (Branford, Conn.) scored the lone goal of the game to lift the women's ice hockey team over UMass-Boston, 1-0, in ECAC East conference play Friday evening at the Hart Center to continue their three-game winning streak. The Crusaders improve to 5-1-0 on the season and in ECAC East action boast a 3-1-0 record. The Beacons fall to 1-4-1 on the year and 1-3-0 in the conference.
Bagi netted the only goal of the night just 2:15 into the second and the assists were credited to sophomore Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) and freshman Rose Rather (Stamford, Conn.). This was Bagi's third goal thus far this season. Tonight was McGee's first career assist and point as a Crusader after transferring from Penn State last season. Rather chipped in her fifth assists on the season to enhance her total points to 10.
The Crusaders junior net minder Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) had a stellar performance as she earned the win tonight while making a total of 14 saves between the pipes. She now holds a 2-1 mark on the season. Casey Schaejbe for UMass-Boston fell short on the night earning a total of 21 saves on the evening as her record now stands at 0-3.
Holy Cross led the category with 21 shots on net compared to UMass-Boston who only shot 14 on target. A total of ten penalties were given out to each team (Holy Cross- 5; UMass-Boston- 5). The Crusaders were 1-5 on the power play and the Beacons were 0-5.
The women's ice hockey team has a quick turn-around as they host St. Anselm tomorrow afternoon at the Hart Center in ECAC East action. The puck drops at 4:00 pm.
