WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore goaltender Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) has been named ECAC East women's ice hockey Goalie of the Week for games played Dec. 3-9, as announced by the league. Stevenson earned her first career shutout victory in the Crusaders' 2-0 win over Connecticut College on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Stevenson made 22 saves in the contest and helped the Holy Cross defense fight off seven opponent power plays in the game. Late in the third period Connecticut College skated with a six-on-four advantage after pulling their goaltender before the start of their final power play with 4:19 remaining. The Camels then skated six-on-five for 1:24 before a Connecticut penalty forced the goalie back to her crease.
This is the second career Goalie of the Week award for Stevenson having won the award earlier this season for her performance the week of Nov. 19-25. She joins freshman Kati Goguen (Acton, Mass.) as the only two Crusaders to be recognized by the league this season as Goguen earned Rookie of the Week honors Nov. 5-11. Stevenson is now 3-2-1 on the season.
Holy Cross (7-4-1, 4-3-1 ECAC East) will return to action at the Rutland Herald Invitational hosted by Castleton State on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 11-12. The Crusaders will face Sacred Heart in the first round at 7:00 p.m.
