Women's Ice Hockey Skates To 4-0 Victory Over St. Michael's

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team recorded its seventh shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory against St. Michael's at Cairns Arena on Friday afternoon in ECAC East conference action. With one regular season game remaining for both teams, the Crusaders improve to 18-2-3 (14-2-1 ECAC) while the Purple Knights fall to 3-19-1 (2-14-1 ECAC).

Senior captain Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) led the way for the Crusaders recording her 100th and 101st goals of her career. The milestone 100th goal came at the 5:37 mark of the second period off assists from senior Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) and junior Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.). The 101st goal was unassisted and came with 10:45 remaining in the third period. Both goals were scored on the power play as Hochkins now has 26 goals on the season.

The Crusaders put the game away early as English netted her second game winning and 11th overall goal of the season just 16 seconds into the game, assisted by Hochkins and Garat. Holy Cross has now scored five goals in the first minute of a period in their last four games. Following Hochkins' two goals, Garat added her 13th goal of the season at 19:27 of the third period to bring the final score to 4-0.

Hochkins, Garat and English combined for all eight points recorded in the game as the Crusaders went 2-6 on the power play. Freshman goaltender Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) earned her second shutout of the season stopping all 17 shots she faced and improved her record to 6-0-1 (5-0-0 ECAC). St. Michael's goalie Erin Stevens stopped 32 of 36 shots and moves 3-17-1 (2-12-1 ECAC).

The Crusades will play the final game of the regular season tomorrow, Feb. 18, against conference leader Norwich in Northfield, Vt. at 1:00 p.m. The ECAC Open Tournament will take place on Feb. 25-26.
