WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team will hold its first "Pink the Rink" on Saturday, January 28th, at the Hart Center during its game versus Southern Maine at 2:00 p.m. The Crusaders will raise money for breast cancer awareness by donning special pink game jerseys that will be for sale at the end of the game and by selling a new and very unique 'Pink the Rink' T-shirt. There will also be a ceremonial puck drop before the game which will honor Susan Van Buskirk, wife of head women's hockey coach Peter Van Buskirk, and Terry Alfama, mother of assistant coach Derek Alfama, who are both breast cancer survivors.
"To help in any way to support and spread the awareness of breast cancer prevention is very satisfying to all of us since everyone is directly or indirectly personally touched by this disease." said coach Van Buskirk. "This is our first ceremony and we are all excited to be actively supporting this universal cause."
Proceeds will go to PINK Revolution which is an alliance of dedicated individuals with a unified commitment to those touched by breast cancer at UMass Memorial and UMass Medical School here in Worcester.
