Third Period Goal Pushes Crusaders Past St. Anselm, 3-2

WORCESTER, Mass. –  Holy Cross outlasted Saint Anselm late in the third period to win a close 3-2 decision at the Hart Center. The win places the Crusaders at 4-0-0 (3-0-0 ECAC East) on the year, while Saint Anselm now stands at 3-2-0 (2-2-0 ECAC East).

The Hawks took the early lead with a goal in the 2nd minute of play. Holy Cross answered back with two first period goals of their own, first by freshman Chelsea Monahan (Cherry Hill, N.J.) at 8:26 and then by team leading goal-scorer senior Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) with seven seconds left in the period.

Saint Anselm tied the game 2-2 with the only tally of the second period.

Finally, after 14 minutes of back-and-forth action in the third period, freshman Rebecca Fleming (Newton, Mass.) scored the eventual game winner with 5:56 left in regulation to give Holy Cross the 3-2 victory.

Senior goalie Carly Dominick-Sobol (Syracuse, N.Y.) earned her second victory of the season with a 24 save performance and is now 2-0 in net for the Crusaders.

Holy Cross will travel to play ECAC East league opponent Manhattanville on Friday, Nov 18. The puck is scheduled to be dropped at 7:00 p.m.
