WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) scored two goals for the third game in a row to lead the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 3-0 victory over UMass-Boston at the Hart Center. With the win, the Crusaders remain undefeated at 3-0-0 (2-0-0 ECAC East), while UMass-Boston falls to 1-3-1 (0-2-1 ECAC East).
Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead at the 10:59-mark of the first period, when Hochkins scored nine seconds into a Crusader power play off a UMass-Boston penalty for checking. The goal was assisted by freshman Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) and junior Rebecca O'Quinn (Arlington, Mass.). The Crusaders struck again less than a minute later when freshman Rachel Miller (Jackson, Mich.) extended the Holy Cross lead to 2-0 at 11:36, once again assisted by O'Quinn.
The score remained unchanged for the second and most of the third period until Hochkins added an empty-netter with 67 seconds left in regulation to seal the 3-0 victory for Holy Cross. The final tally was assisted by senior Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) and junior Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.).
Freshman goaltender Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) collected the win in her first collegiate start, making 22 saves and holding the Beacon power play scoreless in seven opportunities.
Holy Cross returns to action tomorrow, Nov. 12, when they host Saint Anselm in a 3:00 p.m. ECAC East League game at the Hart Center.
