Women's Ice Hockey Selected Third In ECAC Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was selected to finish third in the 2011-2012 ECAC Women's East Hockey League preseason poll as voted on by coaches from the league. Norwich was selected as the preseason favorite with 141 total points and 10 first place votes. Defending NCAA Division III national champion Norwich comes into this season off a 25-4-1 record overall (17-0-1 league) from a year ago. 

Manhattanville was voted in the number two spot with 128 points and one first place vote. The Valiants, ranked eighth in the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) preseason poll, will look to defend its ECAC Division III Women's East Ice Hockey title. Holy Cross was selected third with 124 points and one first place vote after finishing third in the regular season standings a year ago.  The Crusaders captured its third consecutive ECAC Open title in 2010-2011. St. Anselm was selected fourth with 111 points, while New England College was voted fifth with 90 points, UMass-Boston sixth with 87 points, Salve Regina seventh with 67 points, Southern Maine eighth with 61 points and Saint Michael's ninth with 37 points. Castleton (36 points), Nichols (34 points) and Plymouth State (20 points) rounded out the 10th, 11th, and 12th spots respectively. 

Holy Cross returns 15 letterwinners from a team that went 17-9-1 a year ago and welcomes 13 newcomers to the ice. The Crusaders kick off the 2011-2012 season on Friday, Nov. 4 when they travel to Salve Regina. The puck drops at 6:00 p.m. for the conference opener.
