WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) broke a stalemate with two goals in the third period to lead the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Castleton State Sunday afternoon at the Hart Center. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 12-6-0 (9-2-0 ECAC East), while Castleton falls to 5-8-2 (3-6-1 ECAC East).

With the game tied at two goals apiece, Hochkins took advantage of the power play to net her 17th goal of the season just past the four minute mark of the third period. Hochkins' second goal of the game came just over three minutes later, when a pass from senior Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) and sophomore Alex Campione (Townsend, Mass.) resulted in a shorthanded goal, giving the Crusaders a two goal lead. Sophomore Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.) confirmed the win for the Crusaders with a goal at the 19:34 mark in the third period.

Junior Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) recovered her own rebounding shot seven minutes into the first period to score the first goal of the game. Castleton State tied the game, 1-1, after Laura Szwed fought off Holy Cross defenders in front of the net to sneak one by Holy Cross senior goaltender Lindsay Atkinson (Westbank, British Columbia). Holy Cross didn't stay down long, scoring its second goal of the game just 30 seconds later when freshman Kylee Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) found the back of the net and ending the period in favor of the Crusaders, 2-1. Castleton tied the game with the only goal of the second period when Szwed netted her second goal of the game at the 8:11 mark. After drawing Atkinson out of the crease, Szwed took advantage of the open goal for the score.
