Holy Cross Women’s Ice Hockey Falls To #9 Middlebury, 4-1
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – No. 9 Middlebury's Lauren Greer scored one goal and set up another to lead the Panthers to a 4-1 victory over the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Kenyon Arena. With the win, Middlebury improves to 9-3-1, while the Crusaders fall to 10-6-0.
Middlebury scored its first goal of the game, just over four minutes into the first period to take an early 1-0 lead. The Panthers went up by two goals with less than three minutes remaining in the second period and then took a commanding four goal lead with two goals in the third period. Holy Cross sophomore Alex Campione (Townsend, Mass.) put the Crusaders on the scoreboard in the 19th minute of the third period when she scored her third goal of the season.
Holy Cross senior goaltender Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) suffered her third loss, falling to 5-3-0. Gallant allowed four goals, stopping 23 Middlebury shots. Middlebury's Alexi Bloom picked up her seventh win of the season. Bloom allowed just one goal and stopped 15 Holy Cross shots. Neither team was able to convert on the power play, with the Crusaders going 0-3.
Holy Cross returns home to the Hart Center for the first of four consecutive home games on Saturday, Jan. 22, against New England College at 1:00 p.m.
