Holy Cross Women’s Ice Hockey Selected Third In ECAC Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was selected to finish third in the 2010-2011 ECAC Women's East Hockey League preseason poll as voted on by coaches from the league. Norwich was selected as the preseason favorite with 138 total points and seven first place votes. Norwich comes into this season after a 20-6-5 record (13-3-3 ECAC) a year ago and looks to defend its ECAC East Championship title.

Manhattanville secured the number two spot with 134 points and 4 first place votes. The Valiants edged out the Crusaders last season for the ECAC East regular season title with a 16-2-1 ECAC record. Holy Cross was selected third with 123 points and one first place vote after finishing second in the regular season standings and taking home its second consecutive ECAC Open title a year ago. St. Anselm was selected fourth with 109 points, while UMass-Boston was voted fifth with 89 points, New England College sixth with 81 points, Salve Regina seventh with 77 points, Southern Maine in the number eight spot with 60 points and Castleton ninth with 43 points. Nichols, St. Michael's and Plymouth State rounded out the 10th, 11th and 12th spots respectively.

Holy Cross returns 15 letterwinners from a team that went 20-4-2 a year ago and welcomes eight newcomers to the ice. The Crusaders kick off the 2010-2011 season on Friday, Oct. 29 when they travel to Salve Regina for a 4:00 p.m. league game.
