WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross junior goalie Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) recorded her sixth shutout of the season, while five of her teammates combined to score six goals to lead the women's ice hockey team to a 6-0 victory over ECAC opponent Castleton at the Hart Center on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 13-1-1 overall (10-0-1 ECAC), while the Spartans fall to 3-12-1 on the season (3-8-1 ECAC).
The Crusaders put Castleton goalie Katharyn Dembowski to the test, pounding 20 shots on goal in the first period and scoring once. Junior forward Christina D'Ambrogio (Toronto, Ontario) capitalized on a 3-on-5 man advantage at the 12:30 mark in the first period, scoring her fourth goal of the year from just outside the crease.
Holy Cross scored four goals in the second period to take a 5-0 lead. Sophomore Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) scored twice for the Crusaders, once on the power play, while senior Kathryn Kelley (Dedham, Mass.) and sophomore Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) each found the back of the net.
The Crusaders added their sixth goal just 1:47 into the third period when junior Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) tipped in junior Emily Henry's (Lumsden,Saskatchewan) shot to score her 13th goal of the season.
Gallant earned her sixth shutout of the season, stopping two Castleton shots and improving to 8-0-1. Dembowski and Amanda Hoy combined time in the net, Dembowski allowing five goals and recording 35 saves, while Hoy allowed one goal and made 10 saves. Holy Cross outshot Castleton 51-2 and went 2-6 on the man advantage, while Castleton was 0-4.
Holy Cross will hit the road, traveling to St. Anselm on Friday, Jan. 22 for a 4:00 p.m. game.
