SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - A shut out by junior goalie Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) led the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 2-0 victory over ECAC opponent St. Michael's on Saturday afternoon in South Burlington, Vt. With the win, Holy Cross remains undefeated at 6-0-0 (5-0-0 ECAC), while St. Michael's falls to 1-5-0 (1-5-0 ECAC).
After a scoreless 19 minutes and 59 seconds, sophomore Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) was able to get Holy Cross on the scoreboard with one second remaining in the first period. Garat's goal, assisted by freshman Rebecca O'Quinn (Arlington, Mass.), would prove to be the eventual game-winner. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period and senior Katelyn Doherty (Toronto, Ontario) added a goal for insurance at the 9:54 mark in the third period to lead Holy Cross to a 2-0 victory.
Gallant made her second straight start in net, allowing no goals and fending off 28 St. Michael's shots. St. Michael's goalie Alysia Goldman allowed two goals on 41 Holy Cross shots. Gallant improves to 2-0-0, while Goldman falls to 1-2-0.
Holy Cross returns to the ice after the Thanksgiving holiday, traveling to Connecticut College on Dec. 1 for a 7:00 p.m. game.
