Holy Cross Women’s Ice Hockey Takes Down Sacred Heart, 5-3

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - A game winning goal by senior Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario) led the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team to a 5-3 victory over Sacred Heart at the Wonderland of Ice arena Wednesday night in Bridgeport, Conn. With the win, Holy Cross maintains a perfect 5-0 record (4-0 ECAC), while Sacred Heart falls to 1-7.

Sacred Heart took the early lead, just 25 seconds into the first period when Lauren Towers scored her second goal of the season. Holy Cross sophomore Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) evened the score, 1-1, at the 4:12 mark when she took advantage of a power play. Sacred Heart regained the lead at the 5:24 mark when Lauren Fontaine scored an unassisted goal and then took the 3-1 lead at the 14:22 mark when Brittany Hartman scored on the power play.

Sophomore Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) got the Crusaders within one goal just 1:30 into the second period when she scored on an assist from junior Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan). Senior Kathryn O'Connor (Brookfield, Conn.) evened the score at the 19:00 minute mark to close out the second period tied, 3-3.

Wilson scored her third goal of the season and game winner at the 8:49 mark in the third period and Garat added one more with just three second remaining to make the final score 5-3 in favor of Holy Cross.

Sophomre goalie Carly Dominick-Sobol (Syracuse, N.Y.) picked up her fourth win of the season, allowing no goals on 31 Sacred Heart shots. Junior goalie Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) made the start in net, allowing three goals on 10 Sacred Heart shots. Sacred Heart goalie Emily Siira allowed four goals on 35 Holy Cross shots. Both teams went 1-4 on the power play.

Holy Cross continues action on the road, traveling to ECAC opponent St. Michael's on Saturday, Nov. 21 for a 3:00 p.m. game.
