RYE, N.Y. - A third period goal by sophomore Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) gave the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team the insurance it needed to defeat ECAC opponent Manhattanville on Friday night in Rye, N.Y. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 4-0-0 (4-0-0 ECAC) while the Valiants fall to 1-1-0 (1-1-0 ECAC)
Rookie Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.) got Holy Cross on the board when she scored her first goal in a Holy Cross uniform at the 2:56 mark in the first period. Holy Cross maintained a 1-0 lead until the 18:55 mark in the second period when junior Christina D'Ambrogio (Toronto, Ontario) scored to give the Crusaders the 2-0 lead. Freshman Rebecca O'Quinn (Arlington, Mass.) and sophomore Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) were each credited with the assist.
Manhattanville finally found the back of the net just a minute into the third period when Lynsey Schill scored her first career goal to cut Holy Cross' lead in half, 2-1. Hochkins gave Holy Cross a two goal lead at the 13:24 mark in the third period when she scored her fifth goal of the year. Manhattanville was able to bring the score within one at with just 20 seconds remaining in the game when Lauren Nutkevitch scored with an extra man on the ice. Holy Cross was able to hold on to the lead, ending the game in victory, 3-2.
Sophomore goalie Carly Dominick-Sobol (Syracuse, N.Y.) made the start in net, picking up her third win of the season. Manhattanville goalie Emy Cote suffered her first loss of the year. Dominick-Sobol allowed two goals and made 25 saves, while Cote allowed three goals and recorded 21 saves. Holy Cross was outshot by Manhattanville 27-24.
Holy Cross will continue action on the road, traveling to Sacred Heart on November 18 for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff.
