Women's Golf Team Wraps Up 2008-2009 Season

  • Holy Cross wrapped up the 2008-2009 season by placing ninth out of 11 schools at the Jack Leaman Invitational, held at the Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst, Mass., and the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass. The Crusaders finished with a team total of 738 strokes over two rounds.
  • Earlier last week, the Crusaders finished in eighth place at the Big South Championship, held at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. Holy Cross concluded the three-day tournament with a team total of 1,087 strokes.
  • Sophomore Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) led the team by finishing in 29th place at the Big South Championship, totaling 252 strokes over three rounds. She then recorded a team-best 17th place finish at the Jack Leaman Invitational, with a two-round total of 173 strokes. In addition to her achievements on the course, Doherty was selected to the 2009 Big South All-Academic Team for her work in the classroom. On the season, she is now averaging 83.3 strokes per round, good for the best average on the team. Over the course of her career, Doherty has had the best score for the Crusaders in 11 out of the 13 events in which she has competed, including all seven of the team's tournament this season.
  • Sophomore Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) posted the second-best score on the team in each of Holy Cross' tournaments last week. She opened the week by placing 36th at the Big South Championship, with a three-round total of 265 strokes. Gavin then finished in 23rd place at the Jack Leaman Invitational, totaling 177 strokes over two rounds. On the season, she ranks second on the team with an average of 88.5 strokes per round.
